Shane Baum is the founder and designer behind the luxury eyewear brand, Leisure Society. Growing up in a small town where imported beer and wine from a box were a rarity, Baum never imagined he would one day play golf at St. Andrew’s, stay at the InterContinental in Cannes, or hunt pheasants with British Royalty. He credits his love of travel to his travel-obsessed salesman father and choreographer mother, who instilled in him an appreciation for the arts and a serious case of cultural wanderlust.
Baum’s career in the fashion industry began when he started working in the warehouse for the brand Mossimo in the height of their craze in the 90s. He quickly rose to the position of Vice President of the newly launched eyewear division at only 26 years old. After the company went public on the NYSE, Baum left to work at Optical Shop of Aspen before deciding to strike out on his own.
In 2001, he struck a licensing deal with Paul Frank Industries, and with the success of that brand, Baum began thinking on a global level, launching Baumvision Europe in 2005. Over the years, Baum has increased his international status, becoming head designer for Louis Vuitton eyewear under Creative Director Marc Jacobs. Baum has since expanded his portfolio of work, creating multiple licensing and distribution partnerships with companies such as Original Penguin, Modern Amusement, MOSCOT, Barton Perreira, Rebecca Minkoff, TOMS, and most recently, Haffmans and Neumeister.
After 10 years of making frames and designing in the shadows, he decided to try his hand at creating his own brand. He founded The Leisure Society, a luxury eyewear brand dedicated to heirloom design and creating objects that last forever.
