Cutler and Gross

Cutler and Gross 1420 round opticals
The original fashion eyewear house

Two opticians, one Knightsbridge shopfront

Graham Cutler and Tony Gross met at optometry school and opened their first store in London’s Knightsbridge in 1971, at a time when glasses were still seen as a medical necessity rather than a fashion choice. They’re largely credited with changing that.

Frames are still designed in London and handcrafted in Italy.

No logo needed

Every frame is numbered rather than named — a tradition that goes back to their very first design.

The idea is a piece so recognisably itself it never needed a logo to prove it.
