Roland Wolf, Marija Iljazovic and two family members started carving wooden eyewear frames in a basement in the Tyrolean Alps, with no budget for proper machinery. They built their own tools from whatever was around — the first frames were pressed using a retired neighbour’s old milking machine.

That improvised beginning led to a genuinely original, patented screwless hinge system, still used to join wood, stone and horn without a single screw or piece of metal. Still family-run by the Wolf and Iljazovic families, every frame is handmade in the same Tyrolean workshop where it all started.
