INDEPENDENT EYEWEAR

Marseille, since 1995
Jean-François Rey started designing eyewear in the 1980s, part of the generation that first turned glasses from a medical necessity into genuine fashion. He founded his own house in 1995 with his wife Joëlle, who’s led artistic direction ever since.
The studio is still based in Marseille, working across acetate, metal and 3D-printed elements with a guiding philosophy Jean-François calls “elegant transgression.” It’s become the most awarded label in SILMO Paris’s history — recognition earned entirely as an independent husband-and-wife studio, not a licensed house.
Part of the wider world of independent eyewear — not necessarily something we carry, but always something we’re happy to talk about.
